Visual Intake

The city of Lyon has provided no shortcomings to the vast visual detail found throughout its streets. From the details found within the architecture of buildings, sculptures near the Rhône river, to the graffiti slapped on various walls, Lyon has not disappointed with the vast variety of visual intake. So many of these structures provide an individual with many aspects to focus on, proving to be sensory overload at times. Viewing these inspiring and mesmerizing structures can only make one think how long it took to create each one, let alone the city in entirety. I want to emphasize the cohesiveness of the structural design found throughout Lyon though each building was built during a different era, a point brought up by Liz during the boat tour. This furthered my appreciation and astonishment for the artists and designers who created these buildings which proved to garner an intimate understanding of the style and technical ability to create structures of the same appeal as their predecessors. Below are some images of the city that captured the ideas covered above.

Furthermore, what I have found interesting is the simple and less detailed images of the city that have induced a similar action of drawing one towards it. For me, it hasn’t been all about large-scaled buildings with intricate designs and carvings, but the ordinary life found here as well. I believe it is important to find beauty in a variety of facets of life and culture here in Lyon, something that runs parallel with all cities found across the world.

There have been instances where minimalistic images have stimulated times of reminiscence and exploration of thoughts within the mind. It is these moments, caused by the “less sophisticated” structures, that I find value in, sometimes more so than the thoughts and ideas extravagant places bring. These places and/or views also induce a relaxing yet thought-provoking mood which is quite difficult to explain. They have placed me in somewhat of a dream state, reeling me in with feelings of warmth and nostalgia. Below are two images that I have been drawn towards that frame and encapsulate the feeling and ideas mentioned above.
